For a period now haveThe iron sand landfill planned by Rönnskär has been a talked about point in Örviken. This is because one of the places being considered for this landfill is Degeröberget in Örviken, where most people in the village agree that it does not belong. Many worry that it could destroy parts of nature there and also cause dangerous conditions during construction. The reason why Boliden needed to organize the landfill is simply to be able to deposit a lot of Rönnskär's iron sand somewhere. But now Örviken residents can be happy that no decision will be made on the subject at the moment.
We have now learned that Boliden is currently delaying submitting its application for a landfill to the Land & Environmental Court in Umeå.
"Boliden is reevaluating the timetable for the need for an iron sand landfill. At the moment, we will not proceed with any application for an external landfill. Rönnskär's management intends to conduct a new analysis at the end of 2022 and then assess the future need for a landfill." writes Julia Gustavsson from Boliden's consulting company in an email sent 24/11-21.
